This is the first of a planned series of articles about the CPCU Society's Interest Groups.

The PERSONAL LINES Interest Group

We hope that after reading this information and visiting the Personal Lines Interest Group's web page you will consider joining us as members of  the Interest Group.

The Personal Lines Interest Group is one of 14 interest groups within the CPCU Society.

The Mission of the Personal Lines Interest Group is:

  •  to educate professionals in all aspects of personal risk management,
  •  to create and disseminate knowledge
  • and provide expertise to CPCU's and others.

We do this through research and program initiatives emphasizing
high performance, functional expertise, and practical experience.

The Interest Group allows for and supports a network of CPCU’s working in personal insurance. We discuss common interests, and concerns, share successes, discover new ways to apply knowledge, and find outlets for creativity and growth. All group members have access to each other through the CPCU Society's Interest Group Web site and by attending the Society's Annual Meeting and Seminars or other educational symposia sponsored by sections.

May 8, 2008 will see the debut of the Personal Lines Interest Group's first web-based seminar - a 2-part program on Predictive Modeling.

During the National Meetings in Philadelphia this September, the Personal Lines Interest Group will sponsor an educational seminar:  "Market Availability and Government Regulation – Walking the Tightrope" [Monday September 8, 2008; 1:30-3:30pm].

Topics recently discussed by Personal Lines Group members are Technology in Personal Lines Insurance, Diminution of Value,  Senior Driving, Fraud in Personal Insurance, Insurance-to-Value (ITV), Insurance Education (why this has to happen at claim time?), Credit-Based Insurance Scoring, Road Rage, Underwriting via the Internet, Loss Cost Justification, and Information Privacy. We continue to look for cutting-edge topics to foster education as well as reinforcing traditional topics by reviewing from different angles. Our Interest Group also publishes a quarterly newsletter for its members.

The Personal Lines Interest Group received a Gold in the 2005 - 2006 and 2006-2007 Circle of Excellence Recognition Programs.

Members of the Central Mass. Chapter who belong to the Personal Lines Interest Group are:
